This is a six day thematic unit for third graders on characters. The entire unit contains four instructional lesson plans and a final assessment plan designed to span over two days. Students begin by learning what characters are and how they can be described. They then explore the topic of culture and how it influences a character’s development. Students then learn what makes up a good character and create their own characters to write about. In the final assessment, students create a mock Facebook profile for a character of their choice, using everything they have learned about characters to create descriptions based on the book that can be shared with the class in a final presentation.
