Preschool Animal Alphabet Lesson

This is a lesson written and taught as part of my preschool practicum experience at Roberts Elementary in Cincinnati, Ohio. This lesson uses a fun book, The Amazing Animal Alphabet with Fantastic Flaps, to teach students the letters of the alphabet and charactersitics of some animals. Specifically, this lesson was written to focus on the letters “b”, “c”, “f”, “p”, and “t”, because they were letters that the class was particularly struggling to learn at the time.

This lesson addresses the following standards from the Ohio Early Learning Standards:

Language and Literacy: Reading: Letter and Word Recognition: With modeling and support, recognize and name some upper and lower case letters in addition to those in first name.

Language and Literacy: Reading: Letter and Word Recognition: With modeling and support, recognize the sounds associated with letters.

Cognition: Science: Life Science: Exploration of Living Things: With modeling and support, identify physical characteristics and simple behaviors of living things.
